French foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot told the National Assembly on 14 October that investigations were under way after L’Humanité reported possible arms sales to Israel. He said precautionary measures had been taken pending the results.

What remains unestablished

Barrot also repeated the government’s position that France does not sell arms to Israel. The ministry’s published transcript does not identify the companies concerned, describe the interim measures or announce any findings. His statement is an acknowledgement that allegations are being examined, rather than confirmation that the alleged sales occurred.

Why it matters

The answer puts scrutiny of French arms exports on the parliamentary record. Establishing what was supplied, to whom and under what authorisation requires evidence beyond this ministerial statement.
