Mortgage approvals fall to 54,900
The Bank of England’s August figures were released today.

Approvals for house purchases fell from 55,900 in July to 54,900 in August, the Bank of England reported on 29 September. Net consumer credit borrowing rose to £2.5 billion from £2.1 billion. The figures describe August activity, not lending completed today. Mortgage approvals indicate potential future borrowing; they are not completed home sales.
