England’s flu vaccination programme expands to older adults and other eligible groups
The October phase follows September’s start for children and pregnant women, with appointments continuing through winter.

England’s seasonal flu vaccination programme moves into its October phase today, extending the offer to older adults and other eligible groups. NHS guidance sets 1 October as the start for cohorts outside the earlier September rollout.
Who the October offer covers
The NHS lists people aged 65 and over, eligible adults with clinical risk factors, residents of long-stay care homes and qualifying carers among those covered. Children and pregnant women were included in the September phase. Eligibility should be checked against the NHS guidance rather than assumed from the opening date alone.
Delivery before winter
NHS England expects most vaccinations to be completed by 30 November, although the programme runs until 31 March 2027. Its instructions call for outreach to underserved communities and an offer to all eligible groups; those objectives are not evidence that everyone has already been vaccinated.
Finding an appointment
The national booking service opened in August. NHS England also schedules public walk-in service information from 1 October. Local availability can differ, so the next step for an eligible patient is to check the NHS booking service, their GP or a participating pharmacy.
