UK sanctions Russian oil firms, tankers and missile supply networks
A new package targets 12 tankers, two oil companies and trade and payment routes the government says support Moscow’s war.

Oil and shipping targets
The UK announced fresh Russia sanctions on 8 October, targeting two oil companies and a further 12 tankers. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office says the package is intended to cut revenue from oil exports that helps finance the war in Ukraine.
Military supplies and payments
Zarubezhneft and INK Capital are the named oil companies. The government also lists suppliers of machine tools, electronics and other goods it says are important to Russian missile and drone production. Three cryptocurrency exchanges and two payment platforms are among the financial targets. Its statement describes 38 new designations; the categories should not be added together as a count of newly designated people.
What changes strategically
London is widening pressure beyond oil producers to vessels, intermediaries and payment channels. The government says the new tanker measures take its total above 600 vessels. That figure is its account of sanctions imposed, not proof that every vessel has stopped carrying oil. The package is separate from the UK sanctions announced on 1 October.
