Miami Ukraine talks put British and European security guarantees on the table
US, Ukrainian and European negotiators discussed a joint proposal for six hours; no agreement or ceasefire was announced.

US, Ukrainian and European negotiators held six hours of talks in Miami on Friday, seeking a common proposal to end Russia’s war, Reuters reported, citing a person familiar with the discussions. NATO representatives also took part. No agreement or ceasefire was announced.
What was discussed
The source told Reuters that a possible postwar package included security guarantees from the United States and Europe, an economic plan for Ukraine, a route towards EU accession and ideas concerning territory. The source did not describe those territorial ideas. These were negotiating subjects, not settled terms.
Britain’s stake
British, French and German security advisers were among those invited, according to Reuters’ earlier account and AFP. Any eventual guarantee would have consequences for European defence and Ukraine’s ability to deter renewed attack. The scope of each country’s commitment remains unresolved.
A separate sanctions dispute
The meeting coincided with a US decision easing restrictions on Russian diesel that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised. That disagreement forms part of the diplomatic backdrop, but the Miami meeting does not mean Moscow accepted a proposal or that fighting stopped. The lead photograph is an archive of a European meeting in Kyiv in February, not the Miami talks.
