Russian aerial bombs struck homes in Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, killing at least eight people, including three children, according to regional officials cited by the Associated Press. At least 16 people were wounded. The toll remained provisional as rescue and identification work continued.

A changing toll

Ukrinform earlier reported seven deaths and ten injuries, citing acting regional head Mykhailo Semikin. AP’s later report raised the figures to eight dead and at least 16 hurt. These are successive counts of the same attack, not separate incidents. The regional account describes strikes on residential buildings; the full circumstances of each impact have not been independently established.

Why the attack matters

The strike again puts civilian protection and Ukraine’s need for air defences at the centre of the war. It is distinct from bombardment reported in the same region on Friday. Claims about the weapons and responsibility are attributed to Ukrainian officials while independent assessment remains limited. The photograph is a dated archive view of a different attack in Zaporizhzhia on 21 September, not a scene from Saturday.
