Free careers advice opens through DWP, with Jobcentre appointments later this month
The service covers people in England whether or not they claim benefits. Around 500 qualified advisers have joined DWP as the National Careers Service moves into the department.

Who can use the service
People in England can obtain free careers guidance through the Department for Work and Pensions whether or not they receive benefits, the department announced on 6 October. Around 500 qualified advisers have joined DWP.
Appointments are still to come
Online and telephone support are available, but the announcement specifies that face-to-face Jobcentre appointments will begin later this month. That distinction matters for anyone planning a visit: today’s announcement is not confirmation that every Jobcentre already offers an appointment.
What the change is intended to do
Employment minister Andrew Western says bringing advice and employment support together should simplify access. Advisers will prioritise more detailed guidance for people facing barriers to work or learning, including disabled people and young people outside education or employment. The announcement describes access and staffing, rather than evidence that the change has already improved employment outcomes.
