Donald Trump said on Sunday, 11 October, that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate halt to attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure. The US president supplied no terms or mechanism for checking compliance. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow had publicly confirmed an agreement in the reports reviewed for this article.

An announcement without published terms

Trump’s short social-media statement said both sides had agreed and urged them not to break the pause. AP and Reuters reported the claim. The White House had not provided further detail in AP’s initial report. The statement alone does not establish that strikes have stopped.

Ukraine’s condition

In an interview broadcast on Sunday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to stop hitting Russian refineries if Moscow stopped attacks on Ukraine’s power and other energy infrastructure. That is a reciprocal offer, not confirmation that a ceasefire has begun.

Britain’s position

A Downing Street readout of the British prime minister’s 10 October call with Zelenskyy said both leaders wanted Russia to agree to an immediate energy ceasefire. London also said it would maintain sanctions pressure on Russia. Whether Washington’s announcement brings Moscow into an enforceable arrangement remains unresolved.
