Zelenskyy reports 76 energy strikes as Trump’s announced truce remains unconfirmed

The Ukrainian president’s new tally puts electricity supplies and the gap between ceasefire announcements and commitments in focus.

Russia has struck Ukraine’s energy, oil and gas sectors 76 times since Donald Trump announced an energy truce a week earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on 18 October. He reported fresh attacks on substations in four regions. The tally is a Ukrainian presidential claim, not an independent audit.

A statement is not an agreement

Reuters reports that neither Kyiv nor Moscow confirmed the ceasefire agreement announced by the US president. Describing the latest attacks simply as a breach of an agreed truce would therefore imply a commitment that has not been established.

Power supplies are the immediate stake

Zelenskyy said tens of thousands of families remained without electricity while repair teams worked to restore supply. Substations connect generation to consumers: their condition matters alongside the availability of power stations. The current statement does not provide a verified total for lost generating capacity or a restoration deadline.

What is new today

This report concerns the 18 October tally and the latest overnight strikes. It adds a new development to the energy conflict, separate from the earlier report on the US sanctions waiver and the attack on St Petersburg. The regional damage assessment remains incomplete.
