Third Yandex data centre shuts after drone strike in Russia
The company says its Vladimir site is offline, following attacks on two other facilities in four days; the extent of service disruption remains unclear.
Yandex says a drone strike damaged its data centre in Russia’s Vladimir region on Sunday, 11 October, forcing the facility to shut down. It is the third reported hit on a Yandex site in four days, after attacks affecting Sasovo on 8 October and Kaluga on 9 October.
A third site, a new disruption
The Vladimir shutdown is a separate development from the first two incidents. Yandex said part of its cloud infrastructure was affected. Russian business newspaper Kommersant reported a power failure in the ru-central1-a availability zone and complaints about several consumer services. The number of affected customers and the duration of disruption have not been independently established.
Why it matters
The repeated strikes put pressure on infrastructure used by businesses and everyday services, beyond the military front line. Reuters and AFP reported the company’s account of the Vladimir damage on 11 October. The material reviewed does not independently establish who launched the drone or the scale of physical damage.
